Writing a Group Description

Writing a Group Description

Your Group Description appears on the welcome page, and gives non members a run down about your group. It's not a full out explanation of everything you do, and who you are, but rather can separate those from 'just looking around' to 'potential members', and bring those potential members attention towards your group. So what do you include? MaryAnn, of Tots in Tow (Snohomish, WA) shares:

I think some key points are
1)why someone should join your group
2)What age your group is catering too, or other specific criteria that makes you unique
3)A welcoming or inviting statement to potential members

Here is what mine says:

Are you tired of spending rainy days at home with the kids? Are you longing for some conversations that don't include the words, "no,no"? Get out and about with your tots in tow! This is a group designed to connect you and your toddler with other families to socialize and make new friends. We keep our group on the smaller side at about 60 members so that you will see familiar faces at all of our meetups and truly get to know group members. Our group is centered around building friendships that last a life time. Most of our planned events are appropriate for walkers to age 3.

It may also be a good idea, if you edit your about page to reflect more information to put a link after your description. Sometimes, members especially new to meetup don't relieze there is another whole page dedicated to describing your group. This link will help potential members find it.
